Erwin Olaf has been making a name for himself as one of the most talented and influential photographers of our time. Having worked on campaigns for companies such as Nokia, Heineken and Microsoft, he is known for his stunning images and his style of mixing photo journalism and studio photography.

He was recently commissioned by Dutch newspaper, AD to photograph the Dutch football team as Spartan warriors. The players were photographed as gladiators in a “300” inspired theme with their bodies and faces covered in mud and scars. The players photographed were Edwin van der Sar, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Nigel de Jong, John Heitinga, Rafael van der Vaart and joris mathijsen.

When asked why the players were made to look like gladiator. He responded “Football is War”, which explains why the set is entitled “New Warriors”.
